The California Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (CASBIRT) Subcommittee served as the policy steering subcommittee for a grant funded by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The goal of this subcommittee is to encourage the integration of routine Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) services across a variety of settings.
The CASBIRT Subcommittee is facilitated by the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) and meets via conference call one to two times per quarter.
Recent subcommittee activities include:
- Recommendations to the California Medical Association asking they adopt SBIRT services as the standard of practice for early detection of, and intervention in, high-risk alcohol and other drug use at all university, college and community college student health and counseling centers in California.
