Description of Technical Assistance/Training Services or Materials
CAARR’s specific purpose and goal for technical assistance and training under the Disability Access Project is to increase opportunities to, as well as the abilities of, people with physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities to address their alcohol and other drug related problems by:

  • Reducing attitudinal, architectural, programmatic, communication and fiscal barriers to accessing appropriate treatment and recovery services for people with disabilities
  • Enhancing the cultural and linguistic appropriateness of alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment and recovery program services for people with disabilities
  • Improve the quality, quantity, and outcomes of these services
  • Providing training and/ or technical assistance to the state and local AOD agencies statewide and disability agencies statewide

Technical assistance services include program and policy development, Disability awareness and sensitivity training, Introduction to AOD for disability agencies, Clinical approach/ treatment protocol development, architectural surveys, Resource development, Community forums and telephone consultation when appropriate. The Disability Access TA project serves AOD prevention, treatment and recovery service providers, organizations, as well as allied disability service providers.

Populations or Groups Served — State, local and county government, community based, licensed and certified ( private and non-profit) prevention treatment and recovery service providers as well as those entities that address AOD issues of persons with disabilities (i.e. Independent Living Centers – ILC’s, etc.) and educators.

Eligibility Criteria — Organization providing alcohol and other drug services in prevention, treatment or recovery services that include services to people with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities.

Time Limit on Availability of Services — Contract with ADP expires on June 30, 2008.
